I viewng the crack in the picture, you will see the crack goes around a corner. 
Not only is aluminum different to weld, to weld it you would be creating 
shrinkage stress from two different angles. I have welded lots of aluminum in 
my time, and as posted already, the area (if allowed by the FAA) would need to 
be heat treated also, to relieve the stress created by the weld, which would be 
impossibe to do in an installed part as this.
