Finally, `coupe fans, there is this thing called FAA Form
8010-4; "malfunction or defect reports" - can be filled out
by just about anybody and sent in. The FAA compiles them,
but beware: "Once is interesting, twice is a trend."
In other words, if they see too many on the same topic, an
AD ensues. And we all know what that can mean.

Percy and Others,

I disagree with this attitude, so go ahead and smoke me. There is
not an Ercoupe in existence worth more than me - including mine. I
bought my project with the idea that if everything went to the dogs and
I had to trash everything the loss was a learning experience. If my
airplane has to parted, 1/2 my cost could be recovered in the engine and
prop, so I would be ahead. The Feds have to go through a process to issue
an AD note and everyone has a chance to prove them wrong. Fill out
the 8010-4 and do every Ercoupe pilot a favor. Can any one show me
any AD that has no justification? I am an A&P since 1968 and flight time
in 5 figures, which include thousands in airplanes with AD notes. Matter of
fact I can't think of any airplane that I have flown that doesn't have an AD
note.
Never had a mechanical that even remotely compromised the aircraft air-
worthiness. Light the fires.
