If you have the steel main landing gear, SN 812 and below, the orifice needs to be reduced. The suggested procedure is to braze the existing hole shut and then drill through the brass plug.
Early nose gears had a smaller orifice. The required change is more to make it the same as the later ones, rather than for any structural issue. The early nose gear orifice has to be enlarged.
