Well, I'd say foam! Naturally the lighter the less support, so you may want to
build up a few (3) layers of stuff just like the upholstery people do. Start
off with a more dense which will be heavier and then to a medium and then to a
light. That way you'll have the support on bottom and the top will be softer
and more comfortable. If weight were not a consideration, and it always is,
I'd say put a 1" piece of NASA foam on top. So comfortable you'll fall asleep
at the wheel! But, alas, the stuff is heavy!!!

Good project to take some pics and write an article for your favorite magazine
or Hartmut's web page.

I recently weighed my coupe and it had gained about 45 lbs since it was
built. Checking further, I lifted out the seat cushions, opened up the
upolstery and found them stuffed with some really heavy terry cloth
type material. We were guessing that the 2 seats felt like they weigh
about 40 pounds together so they probably really weigh abot 20-25.
What is a good, firm material that can be used in the seat cushions
that doesn't deform a whole lot and is fairly light?
