Richard, it's not that the plugs get carboned up with 100LL, they may get lead fouled. If a person idles the engine during the entire time they taxi in from landing (at a larger airport), the cylinders are allowed to cool enough so that the lead will deposit on the plugs and on the valves. Keeping the rpm's up around 1100 will keep the temps up so the lead remains in solution and will pass out of the engine rather than forming deposits.
