I hope that all of the warnings do not dissuade you from purchasing an Ercoupe. It is a wonderful airplane with a rich history, and provides an economical and safe platform for recreational flying.
Having just finished my first owner-assisted annual, I have an intimate relationship with my Ercoupe. It has been down for four months which can be accounted for in part by my slow and methodical approach to repairs and upgrades during that period. An experienced A&P would have taken a fraction of the time. However, I know the Ercoupe's control, fuel, structural and instrumentation systems in far greater detail than I would have ever imagined. I owe that largely to this group of people who are always willing if not eager to offer help, encouragement, and occasional taunting and teasing. Owning and operating an Ercoupe is really a community affair. I have come to love that. As for my bird, I am scheduled to fly it for the first time tomorrow. My thanks to the "New Guy" for giving me the opportunity to reflect on why I enjoy owning and flying the Ercoupe. Thanks. Frank Nelson N51DV - 415C TOA/California
