Probably true for Ercoupe's, Hartmut, but not for an Alon.

  We had the discussion a while agon and the conclusion was that the Ercoupe 
should be kept as certified. At time of certification, TSO did not excist.
  So a non-TSO instrument is good enough. They are not worse than TSo'd ones. 
Sometimes even better according to the specialists I talked to.

    My United altimeter broke and it would cost $581 by TGH to fix it. I can get
    a new but non-TSO'd altimeter for less than half that. Just wondering the
    likelihood and hassle of getting approval for a non-TSO altimeter...anybody
    on the list do that?
