Are we really going to get into the TSO'd non-TSO'd thing again? Here's the
answer you're looking for.

If you or someone you know thinks you need to have TSO'd instruments, then stop
bellyachin' and get them. The cost difference is not that much and all the
back hangar lawyers will be happy.

Probably true for Ercoupe's, Hartmut, but not for an Alon.

    Ralph,
We had the discussion a while agon and the conclusion was that the Ercoupe
should be kept as certified. At time of certification, TSO did not excist.
So a non-TSO instrument is good enough. They are not worse than TSo'd ones.
Sometimes even better according to the specialists I talked to.

My United altimeter broke and it would cost $581 by TGH to fix it. I can
get
a new but non-TSO'd altimeter for less than half that. Just wondering the
likelihood and hassle of getting approval for a non-TSO
altimeter...anybody
      on the list do that?
