I know there are a lot of different opinons, but I've had great luck and faith
in a set of dog-run stakes I got for a buck a piece on sale at Wal-mart. It is
a long spike with a chevron-style 6 inch flat "wing" welded on for stability,
there is a flanged part for dog chains...and a broad flat end for hammering
down. It sinks in about 12 inches. I angle them for added holding. I carry a
hammer and use the flat of the head to beat it in. Goes in easy in dry ground.
Or as easy as anything else I've seen. The wing gives it it's holding
strength.
unorthodox - yes! It takes little space and I bought a wholesale cheap
leather gym style bag for the stakes, lines, and hammer. Easy to grab and go.
Weighs 6 lbs. Total costs - 8 bucks and an old hammer!
Works great...sand, soil, or loam
