Richard.

This looks like the stock part that should remain there.

It extends the fairing when the wheel are hanging down in-flight. Removing it
adds a bit more drag down there.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Q: On Gear Fairing Part

Hello All, I'm just finishing up my new Paint/Polish scheme on my 415C.
The Gear Fairings w/landing lights that were on the plane when I bought it,
look like somebody made them in their garage. Fortunately I had a set laying
around and replaced the home-made set. I do have a question however, on what
looks like and inner shield that was under the gear fairing. Personally I see
no purpose for this part, and wonder if it's more home-made junk. I'd like to
get rid of them if possible, because they look like crap hanging out under the
stock fairing.

Please see pictures and advise it this is a stock part that needs to
remain in place.

        Thank you,

        Richard

The picture below shows how that inner shield hangs out under the gear
fairing.
