Hey Scott: It sounds to me that someone has jury rigged your airplane. I  
believe you should have a clamp  on the exhaust (solid type, not hose  clamp) 
and 
one on the engine mount. There is a rubber strap about 3/16 inches  thick 
that is used to connect the two and support the exhaust.

give support to the exhaust pipes, I guess so that they don't vibrate  
around. 
My pipes are clamped to these braces with hose type clamps. The kind  that  
tighten with a screw. The screw pulls the band tighter. These bands  seem to 
burn in half.  
Does anyone have a remedy for this? They do last for quite a while as  it is, 
but I am just wondering.
