Hi,
I am paralyzed from the waist down and get in and out of my Ercoupe via a hoist on barn door track in my hanger.
I have researched this issue as far as I can and here is what I know:
There is an STC (I have a copy) which was a one time STC; but has been used on at least 3 other planes. The original Ercoupe under this STC was destroyed when pilot took off at night in freezing rain in Nebraska and didn't make it very far. The plane was destroyed; but the fuselage remained intact so the modification was not a factor and held up well. The STC results in not being able to lower that side of the canopy more than a few inches (a real negative for me)
A local mechanic has offered to do the modification for about $3,000.
A local DER has offered to engineer a new modification which apparently the FAA rubber-stamps DER work. He thinks it will cose
about $3 to $5,000 for the DER work.
The original STC holder is no longer living and I can't find any next of kin. The FAA warns me that I need per;mission from the "owner of the STC" before using it; but that is to avoid him/her from coming after me for using "his STC".

Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Hi All!

I remember seeing one time an Ercoupe with a side door for disable
people. Does anyone know about this or if there is an STC for putting
one in? If there is one, how difficult would it be to put in? Any info
on this would be greatly appreciated
