When the right canopy is pushed all the way down and the left one is pushed
all the way over to the right, you have a half-open canopy.  That's way
better than closed.

 

Perhaps you could have two short windows and a central, metal sunshade.
When taking passengers on warm days, you could remove the sunshade before
the flight.  Then, with the right window down and the left in sunshade
position, you'd be semi-open again, but with a much smaller sunshade-sized
"roof."

 

Or, you might think of an even better idea.

 

I agree, I'd hate to have an always-enclosed airplane in the summer months.
