Tomorrow is my scheduled (re-scheduled) check ride. I have a newly
charged battery (since it now appears that my alternator is not
working). Just a few laps around the pattern will allow me to see if
I can meet the requirements for a short field landing. The Coupe
fires up but it seems a little rough. Turn the radios on, and sure
enough, I get a discharge registered on the amp meter. Check ATIS and
finally the morning gloom has burned off. Ask ground control for
clearance to taxi to 29R with Zulu. I get clearance via Alpha and
Joliet. Good, the radio works.

In the run up area, I start my engine run up. At 1,500 rpm, the
engine is running rough, very rough. This can't be! Tomorrow is my
check ride (the flying part)! Maybe if I run it up again a little
faster, it will smooth out. No such luck. I guess the only bright
spot in the day is that I have the wisdom to call to get permission
to taxi back and call it a day.

What have I done wrong? I can't seem to get a break!

Sorry for my wining.
