Lee. I would say it is totally legal and desired to upgrade your elevator this way. Ercoupe Service letter number two recommends installing the split elevator in early type model Ercoupes. This was when installing something proven with factory recommendation did not require a revolution in the approving Office. In an earlier post Paul reported the following: Re: [ercoupe-tech] Split tail Can a "C" model have a split tail and still be a legal "C" ?GlenI've done a couple of field approvals for this.If Ed doesn't already have them I can send him a copy of my 337s and coverletter to post on his web site.I got the approvals for just the split elevator with no spring, exactly asinstalled on an Alon. The planes remain "C" models.PaulN1431A Read also the following Sample 337 and STC: sample 337 STC that mentions the split elevator in a 415 CD I would think that it is a good time to upgrade the C model to a CD model at that time. The Split elevator is IMHO meant to be on a 415 CD Hartmut
