Are you all talking about saving money or saving fuel?
Without quoting Langeweische's book,
I fly with the knowledge of flight with all that I've absorbed during my
lifetime not only in my one year owned Ercoupe, but in every plane I've ever
owned. Including some W.W.II stuff. (Believe me! At 80, and I'm not trying to
brag.
Just making a point) O.K. you want to make a point that you can do this that
or whatever by stretching, etc. That doesn't mean you can't just fly without a
concern over saving money on fuel costs. An experienced pilot always has bits
of knowledge buzzing around inside continually. Like the place to put it down
"Just in case." Do you fly from one just in case spot to another? Hell no.
Just fly along enjoying -- But the knowledge is inside and will become
automatic
when needed. That's the way I look at saving money on fuel. When I need fuel
for what ever reason. Flight planning, diverting, etc., and it's not to save
money. It may also be to save my skin. It's automatic.
If you want to say out loud "wow I can do this that or the other thing." Look
Ma I'm dancing." That's O.K. Flying an aircraft safely in not a question -
It's the answer to flying and being a proficient pilot.
When I fly with young eagles (Junior Birdmen of America) my only concern is
full tanks. As far as saving money on fuel? O.K. I'll give in. Maybe I'm rich!
 I don't think so...
