One other explanation is that the carburetor, especially the Stromberg is
leaning itself a little during the exessive nose up attitude.
This is ok in an slightly rich running envirenment, but if you are running
already lean, leaner means the engine looses power.
The moment the engine looses power, the stall occures and you are in a dive.
The thread here should be named therefore "Power Loss, then Dive"
This is a known feature of the small Continentals. Continental recommends
applying Carb-Heat in these conditions.
Carb heat enrichens the mixture so the engine won't loose its efficency, but
overall efficiency is then down as well, not allowing an exessive nose up
attitude.

A win win situation :-)

Next time you fly try the same thing with Carb heat on. See if the plane looses
power then.

Bill asked:> Yesterday I did a power on stall and then let the nose drop into

carb by pulling zero g's? Is there any other possible explanation?> Runs OK
otherwise.Bill,I'd guess zero-g could be a possible cause of the power loss. It
is agravity fed fuel system, after all.In addition, we've seen a few instances
in which the extreme nose upattitude of a full power stall caused short term
power loss. I'm guessingthat this is because there's insufficient gravity
"head" pressure. As thenose and carb get higher and higher relative to the nose
tank, the fuelpressure gets lower and lower - all at a time when you are at a
high powersetting. As long as you are not just above the ground, trying to clear
the trees,it's just a pucker-inducing "interesting" event.May you live in (not
too) interesting times!EdEd Burkheadhttp://edburkhead.com/Ercoupe/index.htm
