Glen. The fuel is leaking through the carburetor. You are experiencing most likely a leaking needle valve in a Stromberg carburetor. I lost ones the whole content of the header tank during a week. It can be fixed, but closing the header tank valve after flight is much easier. Which is what I am doing now. It lost about two gallons in three days. I know that this is a common problem with Ercoupes. Where is the most likely place the fuel is leaking from and what is the fix?
