I asked the legal department of AOPA about my doing preventive  
maintenance since I have a private license; but have let my medical  
lapse and am now flying LSA.
Here is the answer I got.

Thanks for the email.  FAR Part 43.3 (g) allows you to perform porev  
maint on Special LSA aircraft as the owner because you hold a Part 61  
issued pilot certificate.  This para clearly states as the owner/ 
operator of the LSA you can perform the prev maint.

While you are exercising sport pilot privileges under LSA rules, you  
still hold a pvt pilot certificate.
