Had a fuel smell in the cockpit and it turned out that the header tank needed
an overhaul. I was using autogas at the time and we all know how foul smelling
that stuff is. Well, the odor permeated into the carpets and all cushions,
even in the cushioning on my headsets that were left in the airplane. Was
never able to get it out and I still have a set from those days. Still smells
bad.

You need to fix that puppy ASAP or the smell of autogas will forever be on your
pants after you fly.

I found the packing on the primer loose causing a leak when the primer was
used. Same thing happened in my Cessna 150H. Fixed them both with new leather
washers provided by my A&P mechanic. I agree that if you smell fuel in the
cockpit, don't fly until you get the leak located and repaired.
