Gang A few weeks ago I ordered the "Little Dipper", a fuel measuring device that I saw advertised in a recent issue of Coupe Capers. Basically, it's a custom cut brass gauge that is designed to permanently attach to the underside of your fuel cap (9 gallon wing tanks only). When you screw on your fuel cap, the gauge is submersed in the tank. The brass gauge is anodized black (insoluble in avgas) and the graduations for gallons are clearly visible with both tick marks and numerals. I no longer have to stick a wooded dowel into my tanks and run the risk of foreign matter falling into my fuel system. Knowing the exact amount of fuel in each wing is as simple as unscrewing the cap and looking at the brass gauge. This is really an elegant solution to an old problem. As fuel starvation is the number one cause of aircraft accidents in the GA fleet, this is really cheap insurance. I'm not terrible handy but I was able to install two, one on each main tank cap, in less than 30 minutes. The instructions are for guys like me.with how-to-do-it pictures. If you want to buy yourself a really useful product I highly recommend you check it out. Send an email to [email protected] and he'll send you an info sheet.
