This discussion is a bit of a shock for me. I did 95% of my training in a Coupe
that I owned and got my check ride in it. Due to a physical deficiency (blind
in left eye) I had to take my check ride with an FAA examiner and I was issued
a waiver of demonstrated ability with no limitations at that time. My pilot
license never had any restriction to a rudderless airplane. I received a tail
wheel endorsement shortly after getting my private. This was in 1975 and as I
recall there was a restriction years earlier if you got your check ride in a
two control airplane but, not at the time I got mine. I'm confused now! Ken
