Hello Group,

I'm going through annual on my Coupe. In reading the email exchanges in
December, 2008, on aileron inspection and repair, I thought this is good time
to inspect and test those on my Coupe.

1. What is good method of testing or determining corrosion, if any, when
inspecting ailerons? Ice pick? Good for punching holes, yes, and if soft, go
deeper, but what do you do about the holes that are left? What is the
technique here, please? Or would you pull the aileron, drill out the rivets on
the root rib and take a look? I'd soon not go that far if not necessary.

2. If corrosion is detected, what is procedure for repairing? What parts does
one get from Univair?

3. How about elevator and rudders? Has there been any corrosion detected in
those areas?

I once saw a 6 ft. RC model B-25 get aileron flutter at about 80 mph. Not a
real plane, I know, but the sight was something to behold. It overhead at
about 40 to 50 ft. in a shallow dive. You could see the early moments of the
aileron flutter, and the sound, and then an explosion of about 10 lbs. of
balsa, engines, fuel tanks, some wafting gently down, balsa, and some chunks
falling all around, engines, etc. A model airplane I know, but an
unforgettable sight. I don't want aileron flutter.

Any guidance and advice appreciated.
