Part of my check list is to use carb heat when I start my decent from 
altitude regardless of any other factors.  Carb Heat, reduce the power, 
set the trim, I do this this way because I was tought this way and it 
frees up the cock pit load as you enter the pattern and now you have to 
be very careful of all the other a/c and KNOW  where they are.  Also it 
does'nt cost the much in power for a missed approach/misjugded the spot.
