Dan asked about the required changes in the landing gear during a C to D modification.
All the required changes are spelled out in Aircraft Specification A-787, NOTE 3. For the landing gear, it says: (f) Revise the orifices for the main and nose gear piston as follows: Serial Nos. Orifice Size Main Gear 113 thru 812 .067" diameter Nose Gear 113 thru 1622 .281" diameter Somewhere in our discussion about the stc for 1320, I saw the procedure for making this orifice change written out. I can't remember if it was in an on the forum message or in other materials I looked at. The penalty for not doing it is, if you have a very hard landing at gross weights above 1260 lb., the fluid can't go through the orifice fast enough to dampen the shock so you are more likely to get damage to the gear or the structure to which it is attached.
