Famed Boeing test pilot Tex Johnston put his pilots into Ercoupes to teach them how to land in a crab so that they would not hit the pods of the prototype 707 and 717 (KC-135) on the ground in crosswinds. - AOPA piece

Do I get this right?
"My understanding is that Boeing utilized Ercoupes in original DC 8 tng.. The engine mounts are on the wings in a position that prevents wing low slips to a landing. I may be wrong noting the DC-8, but I think correct."
BOEING used Ercoupes in the original DC-8 training????????
The DC-8 was built by McDonnell Douglas.
I don't know whether to believe you guys or not.
