Subj: Re: [ercoupe-tech] Sliding Windows

Hey Earl: I guess I was too flippant with my reply. The reason I asked
which windshield was that in order to remove the sliding windows the process
is different from one to the other. I asked about the trim because if you
have the trim crank on the instrument panel, you do not have a problem with
the trim cable when removing the side panels that cover the sliding windows.
It is possible to replace the window welts without removing the
aluminum side panels, but you have no way to ensure the welt is in the proper
position in the channel in the area behind the side panel. I always recommend
using some thick cardboard strips to put in the welts after installing in
order to ensure a good bond to the channel and that the welt stays open.
If your coupe has been retrofitted with the bubble windshield, there
should be an opening in the middle rear channel, which is covered by a small
plate, where you can get the sliding windows out. If you have the flat
windshield, there should be a small opening in the front channel, also covered
by a small plate, where you would remove/replace the windows.
Advise?

Hey Earl: Just replace them.
Actually we need the configuration to tell you what to do. i.e.
straight windshield or bubble, side trim or panel crank. Are you doing it our
is
your mechanic?
