a couple of points 1 there are no aileron cables in an ercoupe however you can get excess play due to worn rodends or hinges. 2 flutter can be seen from the ground if the plane is low enough and the sun is hitting the controls at the right angle. Glenn Putnam

We had lots of messages about the Sebring accident when it occurred due to the report by the ATP on the ground who said he saw the aileron flutter.  We have not seen the final report on this accident.

 

I can’t for the life of me understand how someone could see aileron flutter from the ground…

…  At that time, he thought it was elevator flutter that had broken the tail cone. 

 

Elevator cable tensions are unusually high for the Ercoupe.  For a reason…
