Hi Daniel,

So in Argentina every airframe has its own flight manual? Interesting. Would like to see a copy of your friend's (even if it is in Spanish, no hurry). If this is possible, let me know and I'll email you my postal address.

I believe the pictures Ed posted should help you determine if a split elevator is installed.

The "Stall Warning Cushion" spring may be installed as in the Ercoupe bolted to the bottom of the tail cone (spring end) just aft of Frame I (see Ercoupe Parts Manual p. 10, Fig. 24, item 54) and (straight end) connecting to a bracket bolted to the lower end of the elevator bellcrank assembly (p. 30, item 43) and the elevator pushrod (item 1). Generally speaking, this is in the after fuselage below the horizontal stabilizer (visible by removing the rear tail cone fairing, see p. 38, Fig. 24, item 10).

The Forney Parts Manual shows this spring between the center of the elevator bellcrank assembly (p. 30, item 43) and a bracket bolted to the upper connection of the elevator pushrod (item 1) to the elevator (horn?) itself. It appears this installation would be visible without removing the rear tail cone fairing.

Hope this helps,

I am refering to the Approved Flight Manual for this plane here in Argentina. I don't know, how is it in other countries, but here every airplane (every unit, not every model) has its own Flight Manual (That is the exact name, in spanish of course).

Very interesting, I will check if a a split elevator & warning spring are present. Where is this spring located ? Do you have any photograph or web page where can I see that ? I will also appreciate if you can tell me where can I see a picture of the diference between the two elevators ... split and common.

Thanks again for all this tech data and advice. Learning a lot every day !

Best Regards
Daniel
