Hmmmmm... Should "open window" then be added to an emergency landing
checklist? Or is any impact protection provided by the windows (such
as it is) more important?

I believe the object is to remain upright. I dont know of many that
"landed" upside down and lived to kick at all. In that situation i'm
sure my adrenaline would allow me to chew my way through the side.
