I've owned my 415c for 1 1/2 years and 140+ hours. I have one recurring problem
with failure of the charging system. The generator installed now is the third
since I bought the plane as is also the voltage regulator. It did not work when
I bought the plane which accounts for the first generator and regulator change.
Delco Remey then replaced one generator when it failed again after 5 or 6
hours. When they got my returned generator, they informed John Cooper there was
nothing wrong with it, but the new generator and regulator worked for about 100
hours and then started working intermittently. Symptoms were that it would not
charge until about 10-15 minutes into a flight, then it would start charging
again. On the last flight it never started charging.

Wire continuity, checking for a grounded wire and checking the NEW master
switch do not show any abnormalities. When the field terminal is grounded, and
engine run up to 2200 rpm, there is less than 1.5 volts indicated on the
armature.

If anyone has any advice on why 3 sets of generator and regulators would fail
in such a short time, please advise.

Thank You.
