I've been restoring an Ercoupe and I'm trying to put the engine back on the mount after overhaul. It came off without any problem but I can't get the mount, bushings, and engine to line up to get it back on. I can get three bolts started but then the fourth is off by 1/2 the bolt diameter. Forcing it just tears up the bolts and bushings (I've now replaced both.) I've probably installed six other engines on other types of planes and each had its quirks but this one takes the cake.
I've tried starting with each of the bolts, I've tried leaving them loose, I've tried tightening them, I've tried having several people try to wrestle it into position, I've used "bullets" to align the holes, I've tried undersized bolts to get things aligned, and I've had two A&Ps look at it, and still it won't go. The mount was not removed from the plane and it was not hit or otherwise damaged while the engine was off. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
