It seems to me that if the sloshing compound is coming loose in the tank and you use solvent on it, MEK was suggested, there is a real possibility of opening up the leak that the sloshing was originally put in to prevent? I would think that in the past 50 years something would have been discovered that was good to put on the “outside” of the seam to prevent leaks. That way, only a minuet about of this substance would actually be exposed to the fuel. Heck, I think that if you dried the tank, got the outside of the seam degreased, roughed up the surface a bit, that JB Wield would seal it perfectly.
