I don't understand how this happens since they seem to be linked
together. Since the cables don't stretch
and I don't see any fancy mechanism, how does any one of them move
more one way than the other?

Simple question from a neophyte:
It seems obvious that the rudders on an Ercoupe can only move outward,
not inward, because of the elevator being in the way. Am I missing
something?
If not, then my hypothetical description of an Ercoupe crabbed landing
contained an error. Only one rudder would be pushed sideways, not
both,
when the plane pivots.
