So about 100 hrs ago we said goodbye to our Eisemann magnetos and installed the Slick Kit including new harnesses and Autolite plugs.
Life was good for about 80 hours and we started having rough engine at high power. Could not duplicate it on the ground. Only in the air, felt like a stuck valve with a metalic sound like loose valve train. Complied with Slick Mag service bulletin. All parts look like new and in compliance with SB. Reassembled. Compressions all high 70s. Inspected plugs, #2 plugs were oily pulled the cylinder and sent to Gibson for inspection. Found cracks installed rebuilt cylinder. Full power runup fine, First flight, climbout fine, level off and started running rough. Drained carb bowl-clean, sent mags to shop for test, tested fine. Ted at El Reno spoke of problems with autolite plugs, put old champions in and it runs good again. Next step was going to buy and install an engine monitor. But I guess we will spend that money on new champions... mitch - 100 hr Autolite plugs placed into dumpster.
