Gary,

If you, or your passenger, are sensitive to the weight &/or clamping
of a headset, I heartily recommend the Clarity Aloft in-ear headset
that I have. It was designed by an audiologist (who was personally
demonstrating them at AOPA EXPO), weighs almost nothing, consists of
a thin metal tube that runs behind the neck and up over the ears,
with the in-ear pieces on flexible little stalks... and the biggest
problem is to remember not to go getting out of the plane without
detaching it, because you'll forget it's on!

One of our local Ercoupers in SoCal who has seen mine just asked me
for the brand name, because, he said, he's "married to the Princess
of Princess & The Pea," and traditional headsets drive her crazy, too.

Before finding the Clarity Aloft, my time in a plane was limited by
the headset's weight & clamping, which gave me headaches -- that was
with my CFI's heavy David Clarks. I also tried another (lighter
weight) traditional headset, which is now my back-up, and the
Lightspeed brand in-ear headset (which was IMHO poorly designed/
balanced, movement of the mic tended to detach the earpiece on that
side). The latter also failed to give a good seal in my left ear,
even with the custom-made molded earpieces. The Clarity Aloft fits
me without needing custom-molded earpieces.

Two extra bonuses: the Clarity Aloft allows me to fly wearing a broad-
brimmed hat, and I bought mine directly from the manufacturer, and
they were very nice to deal with.

Linda
