You will experience some wobble even with a brand new roller bearing. This is part of the design and should not lead to nose wheel shimmy. Nose wheel shimmy is mainly caused by loose scissor links and a tire that is out of balance. The design of the ingle bearing takes into account that the wheel will not be running 100 % straight in it's bearing. It will shift either to the left or right. But in a tricycle design, this is without any consequences. The pressure of the tire rubbing against the concrete will hold the wheel in either position. The electrol gear was a later addition to the 415/E and CD Models. It has an Aluminum outer strut and uses an inner strut with a slightly different diameter. Because of that, the forks are different for Electrol gears. The Electrol Gear was fitted originally with the same single bearing fork as was the steel gear. I believe the later style single fork, double bearing gear with the longer axle was available for both types of nose gear - Steel and Electrol. The fork casting of the later style is different to the earlier style in that that it is longer by aprox. an inch than the early style single fork gear. I can take some pictures next time when I am at the airport that will show the difference. Don't bother on looking for the picture as I would prefer not to do something that is not out of the normal design of the original Ercoupes (all versions). I'd prefer not to change the height of the tire and the attitude of the plane. Do you think a new bearing will take care of the wobble in the current design? Can you explain what the difference is beweeen the "steel gear" vs. the "electrol gear". I'm being told that the electrol has the longer axel and two bearings for the wheel. Is that correct? Is the fork (casting) different between "steel gear" and "electrol gear"? One more addition: I ones saw a addition to the single bearing wheel that held a second bearing on the axle. Maybe I can find a photograph of that setup, but I am sure it will be hard to get an approval for that. Can you tell me what parts are needed to do this? Can my current fork be used? Is it just press my old axel out and press in a longer one and then new bearings and wheel halves or what? I talked with skyport but they are still learning and I haven't had much luck with Univar when asking for help. I know the double fork is the best design but I'm hoping that I can save some money by using my current fork and making it better. Please let me know what it takes.
