My fiancée went up with me for the first time today. She was surprised
that we had to wear headsets in order to communicate.

So, the question. Can the engine noise be reduced enough or the cockpit
insulated enough, or both, to allow for normal conversation without
losing significant engine performance? Do the Ercoupe specifications
limit what one can use for a muffler, so that a different one would
require an STC? A couple of the new Light Sport planes claim a quiet
cabin. How do they do it? (It can't be the engine, per se, because they
use Rotax 912s. I've flown a Sky Ranger with one of those, and it sure
wasn't quiet.)
