Rick, One possibility -tho small, is that you have a header tank utilizing a standpipe overflow system. Revised systems utilize an overflow line from thhe upper rear side of the tank The standpipe overflow system often failed due to vibration, and failure of the stsndpipe; allowing fuel to empty from the header back to the wing tanks. A possibility is the already cracked completely failed, or the cracked pipe corroded during the storage time from water condensing in the header tank, and now the leak is increased, allowing a excess return flow.
If your header tank has two outlets in the bottom of the tank, it is a header type tank.Check service bullletin on fuel systems to see the description. All standpipe tanks were replaced with the rear upper overflow line, or modified by closing the bottom standpipe, and sealing the tank, and installing an upper rear side overflow el fitting. I got my Coupe back from an owner assisted annual. The Fuel flow was normal at that time. It did sit for three months for the winter...and upon starting to fly again, the header tank drains way too fast -- with fuel in the mains. At the annual...the Fuel pump screen was checked and found clean. Cap placed back on and retightened and safety wired. Nothing else really done to affect the system and fuel flow. The cap was tight. Took to Mechanic and he replaced cork gasket in the fuel pump and we checked and there is fuel seemingly coming out the outflow side -- at least some is being pumped. All gas cap vents checked and clear. I'm having a new fuel pump ordered as that seems to be the only thing we can come up with that is problematic. The fuel valve is on (thank you very much :) There is no sign of leakage. I submit to the learned members of the forum... Am I overlooking something? Thanks For any Help...
