Dave,
Thank you for posting that link; it might be very timely. I was
prevented from taking off for the EAA Copperstate event yesterday by
a bad run-up. On one mag, the tach dropped 200 RPM, but bounced back
up. On the other, it quickly dropped 200 RPM, then started dropping
even more, but slowly. It did this consistently on 3 tries. I
taxied back from the run-up area, and the local A&P thought it might
just be fouled plugs, so he cleaned them. But when he did a run-up
test himself after that, he said one was still very rough. So I
scrubbed the trip.
I'm going to call him and send over the link you posted. What
caught my eye there was the mention that an oil leak might provide
the moisture to precipitate arcing -- and I've fought an oil leak off-
&-on for some months.
        So, thanks!

Well, I thought my mag problems were solved until the right ignition
started missing again. Diverted into Abilene on the way to Midland,
and the mechanic at Abilene Aero was able to troubleshoot the problem
to a bad distributor block-- one of the few thing we did not change.
Called my AI and told him what was going on, and he made some phone
calls to learn more. One of his colleagues sent him this link to an
article that explains the problem in depth. This should be the end
of the mag problem!

Later,
Dave

Dave,

I know this doesnt help the current situation directly, but here's
some more information that would make this a little understandable.
