Hi, Linda I don't know if this applies to all the different mags everyone is running, but this was the advice the A&P from Abilene Aero gave me for my Bendix mags:
1. Exchange or rebuild your mags every four years or 500 hours, whichever comes first. 2. If you rebuild them, use the rebuild kit and replace the distributor block and coil as well. Since we will have just done the right mag, I will have the left mag rebuilt no later than the 2012 annual, then the right again in 2014. Basically, I will be rebuilding one mag or the other every second annual. One more thing I learned-- no matter how much you like and trust your A&P, sometimes it pays to have another mechanic look at your airplane. Even my #1 guy (formet Thunderbirds mechanic and worked for EAA as Chief of Restoration on "Glacier Girl") started looking for second opinions after I called and told him I was on the ground in Abilene. A good A&P will have no problem with getting another opinion just like a good doctor. I had to cancel going to the Reklaw, TX fly-in at Flying M Ranch, so I feel your pain!
