The main reason to get away from the single fork gear was the cost of the tire
for me.

I thought I am smarter than others and got me the single fork that allows for a
5X5.00 wheel installation.

However the outcome was similar to installing a dual fork. The tail went down
and even the spacers in the MLG are barely adequate to bring it back up.

Knowing what I know now, I would not have made the change.

However, the installation of the spacers is easier than switching back the
fork. So I guess you are best advised to try the spacers first.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] RE: Nose wheels. Single vs dual fork

My 415C ser 5xx came with a single nose wheel and a shimmy when landing and
taking off. I had a chance to get a dual fork front strut and put it on to
discover that it didn't stop the shakes and made the tail too low.

At this year's annual we replaced the rod ends, bellcrank bearings and control
column bushings. In the process all of the extra play in the ailerons and
steering went away after the final adjustmenmts were complete. The shimmy on
landing and take off is also gone.

One of the reasons for getting rid of the single front fork, the price of the 4
inch tire has changed. While still expensive, it has droppped by about half.

My question - would I be better off to reinstall the the single fork front
strut to raise the tail or install bushings in the main struts to raise the
tail and leave the dual fork installed? Has anyone tried both front struts?

Do not be mislead by popular opinion.
