Dennis . You could use REM-37-BY plugs that are shorter than standard. They would fit under the nose bowl maybe. The bowl would still have to come off though for a spark plug change. There is no way you could fit the socket over the spark plug with the nose bowl on. But you could cut a nice round hole over the spark plug in the nose bowl and install a flat cover plate. The REM-37-BY combined with a harness that does not use elbows would probably allow that.
The standard full length REM 40 E plugs will protrude a bit through the nose bowl. If you use those, you'll need to cut a hole in the nose bowl and use the fairings. I have the short plugs on top with the canisters and want to install the tall standard plugs on the top but I do not want to have the cowling extensions. We think if we use a harness with 90 degree connections we could today install standard plugs on the top in three cylinders. But we can see no way to do that on #4 cylinder. We would still have to take the prop and nose cowling off to install or remove the plug from #4. I realize you can get at #4 plug with the nose cowling loose and without removing the prop, but we end bending the nose cowling so we remove prop and nose cowling. Does anyone know a good way to use the standard long plugs on top of all 4 cylinders without installing the cowling extensions?
