Hey Darick: The Original Ercoupe control wheels were held on to the control
shaft through a two piece connector, which was held together with 3 or 4
screws. This connection was fastened to the shaft with a #1 taper pin. The
tolerances were fairly close and the unit held up pretty good. The plastic
hub that covered the entire connection did not hold up very well in the sun
light. When the plastic was removed the result did not look nice at all. I
believe there was a change made at serial 4423.
At one time I believe Skyport had a replacement rams horn style yoke
which replaced the control wheels, which I believe was kit # FMK-14.
Installation of this kit, or any other style wheel requires a 337 and
approval to
be legal. I have run across installations that were not legal. I suspect
that you will have to replace the shaft (as Hartmut said).
One way would be to obtain a pair of control wheels and shafts (Used
assemblies) from a salvage yard. Skyport now has new plastic covers so, you
could make them look pretty nice. I do not believe that Univair or Skyport
have assembled control wheels and shafts, but most of the individual
components are available (pretty pricey however). I would recommend calling
Vernon Gregory and see what he can provide.

Folks,
There is a lot of play in the yoke connection on my 415C. The yoke is a
typical "U" shape style and is connected with two bolts. Can this be
repaired or must the yoke and tube be replaced? The universal joint at the
other
end where it connects to the "T" is good.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Darick
