In my own case (as best as I can remember) My Coupe suffered an engine fire and was totaled. When I found out it was up for bid I called my adjustor and asked if I could bid on it. The insured value was $18,000. I was told yes, and I offered $3,000 over the phone which was immediately accepted. I had $15,000 to apply to my replacement plane.

I had purchased another plane and I took my new radio, intercom, the interior and anything else that was better than that which I had in the replacement plane, and switched them.

The prop and engine went as a core for $1000.00 (they are still flying today. ) The wings I set aside. The dual fork nose gear, wing tanks and other desirable stuff went pretty quick. I don't remember what I asked for them but I was pretty close to getting my $3000 back. The prop went for 600 if I remember correctly. I sold the radios, instruments and a lot of little stuff. The rest of the hulk went for enough to make up the difference between the 15 K I had from the insurance company and the price of the new plane.

The wings I has set aside were completely gone through and recovered. Once installed on the replacement plane I sold the wings I had removed for enough to pay for all the materials used for the recover.

When all was done I has a real nice O-200 equipped Coupe and I had turned a disaster into a windfall.

The insurance company was AIG they did not raise my rates, they did not try to avoid the claim and I still have them insuring my plane.

So Kim, with luck it might be possible for you to come out of this looking good.

Good luck
