My coupe has suffered from significant engine oil loss. We had not been able to
pin point the source as the oil seemed to be every where and concentrated on
the belly.

At last years annual I decided to try several things in attempt to stop the
leak/s. The first was to remove the the elbow from the oil breather port and
add a one inch extension that protruded into the engine. My A&P brazed the
short copper tube into the elbow.

Next I rerouted the the line from the elbow to the bottom cowl. This is an
aluminum tube on my coupe. The line now slopes up and travels back across the
cylinder tops and thru the rear baffle. From there it goes almost straight down
to vent out the bottom cowling. Part way down I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the
tube to act as a pressure relief in case the moisture inside freezes and blocks
the tube.

The result is a dramatic decrease in oil loss. I still have a few drops coming
out somewhere but nothing like I had.

Cessna charges over $100 for the elbow with the extension . It is worth your
while to find someone that is skilled at brazing to modify the elbow.
