Subject: Voltage reg.

Ed, I am unable to post to the list from this machine. Please post for me.
Thanks

I fought voltage regulator problems for most of 4 years before I did a
little research and got a field approval for a Zeftronics electronic
regulator. Installation was simple with no wiring changes. Additionally
the footprint is the same so it will use the same bolts and the weight
difference is in ounces.

Directly from the back page of the Field Approval:

Remove Delco Voltage regulator (1118253) and replace with Zeftronics voltage
regulator #G1120N.

Original Delco voltage regulator (1118253) and two successors have become
obsolete with the last authorized model (1118383) discontinued in 1980.
Zeftronics model G1120N is STC'd to replace the Delco model 1118383 in
several aircraft using the same generator and having overall similar
electrical systems.

The total electrical load of the aircraft is less than 80% of the rated
output of the generator and of the proposed regulator, as required in
AC43.13 sec. 11 item 35A.

No wiring or mounting changes are necessitated as the Zeftronics unit is the
same size and utilizes the same electrical connections as the Delco unit.

Installation was performed in accordance with Zeftronics drawing number
Z201D1 as follows:
   1. Remove existing voltage regulator.
   2. In the same manner as the one removed, connect and mount the
generator controller.
Some slight repositioning of wires may be required.
   3. Ensure that all connections are clean and tight. Unit's case must be
grounded.
   4. Secure all wiring and ensure their clearance from moving parts and
controls.
   5. Weight and balance change negligible.

Test electrical system under load.

Maintain Zeftronics Drawing Z201D1 including Instructions for Continued
Airworthiness in aircraft documents.

This worked for me. Of course you should take the proposed change (337) to
the FSDO and talk to an inspector before doing anything. They were actually
pretty helpful.
