In order to install a new push button starter one must cut off the existing shaft that the old starter clutch slides on when engaging the flywheel. The new style starters do not need the shaft for support so to go back to the old style would require an engine disassembly, replacement of the shaft, and reassembly. This would not be economically feasible.
