Hi Mac... When I purchased my Coupe, someone had changed out the "string and strap" back rest with a formed metal panel. Works great and holds the seatback frame together much better. When the seatback was removed for an overhaul and repairs I made a copy of the pattern for future referance.
As for tool control, in the airforce our tool boards and boxes have the shape of the tools cut out on self adhesive flouresant tape. These "shadows" are then applied to the tool board or tool box, so you can see what tool is missing. Some tool boxes are lined with a thin foam like material with the shapes of the tools cut of of it, and an orange piece of drawer liner placed under that. Again you can quickly see what tools are missing, and the tools won't shift aroound in the box. I like this method of tool control, but on big jobs I try get a hanger mate to do a close out check (tool control, cotter pins, lockwire, FOD check)of the area for me.
