I have no answer on gps. I wear amber non polarized sunglasses when flying. They help with viewing in bright light. I also also fly with marked-up sectional charts and use pilotage and ded reconning as my primary navigation aid.

With regard to headset, insure the fit is correct. Most are adjustable at headband. Bend the headband if needed? I found that some old booms that are basically a metal hinge get loose over time. I like the type which have an adjustable rubberized boom. Those stay in place nicely. With regard to size, insure you have unit that fits your head. Aside from adjustments you may have a set too big for your head. Are you tall and have a noggin that sticks out in the airstream? How about only opening the windows half way?

If you can go to a pilot shop, Try on different sets. If you have a small head, perhaps consider a child's unit.

I hope you get it solved.

Best,
John

I ‘always’ fly with my windows down and have never had a headset issue. What type are you using and is the mike boom securely fasten ed? I use a David Clark headset with a push-to-talk switch on the y oke.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Too Many Windows

I would appreciate some help on two issues I have not resolved.
The first is that living in a sunny part of the country with all the windows in the coupe, the light makes my Garmin 296 very hard to read. I have it turned up to maximum brightness, still I think I need an eybrow or shield to allow better viewing of it. The second problem is headsets. I never before used one (always had a hand held mike and a speaker system), and they just don't seem to stay where they belong. Wrestling the headset with one hand while trying with the other to land can be a real pain, several times I was glad I had someone along to hold the control while I done that, even then, the mike gets too far away from my mouth, killing it when you don't need it dead, again making you a one handed flyer. A couple of times on short final I just had to take it off and land with it in the baggage compartment. Has anyone used a throat mike and an earbud type setup?
